Agency Background

The Center for Progress and Excellence Inc. (CPE) was established in 2017 to serve the Southwest Florida community through effective and efficient response to the crisis needs of the community supplemented with short-term backup services and long-term referrals for follow-up care and support. Through its efforts, the Center ensures and coordinates the mental health needs of the most vulnerable and in-need population throughout southwest Florida.

Vision

To strengthen the community for all individuals regardless of race, gender, age, socioeconomic status, to achieve and maintain mental wellness within the Southwest Florida community through the establishment of long-term mental health and social services through a collaborative network of agencies.

Mission

Provide short-term services to individuals in Southwest Florida and facilitating the establishment of long-term services to meet the needs of the community.

The Center’s Strategic Priorities

To effectuate its mission, the Center focuses on the following strategic priorities in collaboration with its regional partners:

1.       Continue to develop financial stability and staffing to achieve excellence in our existing programs. These programs fulfill community needs and establish the CPE as a legitimate non-profit service provider throughout the entire community.  The initial focus of the center will be to develop programs in the following areas:

  • ·       CRISIS INTERVENTION SERVICES

  • ·       DEPARTMENT OF JUVENILE JUSTICE

  • ·       OUTPATIENT THERAPY SERVICES

  2.       Maintain the long-term sustainability of the Center through fundraising events, legislative action as well as federal state and local grant applications.

 3.       Advocate for collaboration and ensure integration into the social service community of Southwest Florida and reach the full range of mental health professional associations, community advocacy groups, private and public providers, United Way, related service agencies, existing programs/services, Task Forces, and participate in community events.

 4.       Provide the third annual symposium in partnership with Hodges University that offers CEU-level training to agencies, professionals and students and increases awareness on the core mental health-related topics and CPE programs and initiatives.

2022-2023 Strategic Priorities with Goals

 Working with the unique and interconnected disciplines of social services, health care, education, and community partnerships, the Center will:

Strategic Priority One

Financial stability and staffing to achieve excellence.

Develop a functional base of programs (minimum of 7 by June 2024), that will fulfill community needs, and will also establish the center as a legitimate non-profit service provider.  

1.      Create formalized and comprehensive social service programs that are accessible, effective, and targeted to impact specific community needs.

2.      During the calendar year, the center will develop a minimum of three programs that will target the following areas: substance abuse, low SES members of the community, human trafficking, migrant workers, and the LGBTQ community.

3.      Each program will be self-sustaining and must have an identified funding revenue stream.

4.      Develop the Center’s infrastructure to include financial accountability and management, accreditation & licensure with relevant monitoring agencies, appropriate contact, and referral procedures, etc.

Strategic Priority Two

Maintain long-term sustainability.

Implement an effective training and development for the new Center, its Officers, and the Board of Directors.

1.      Complete a full Strategic development process and an annually plan review.

2.      Send Center officers to a minimum of one CEU conference per year.

3.      Acquire and/or maintain federal, state, and private grants to expand and sustain the Center’s program operations.

Strategic Priority Three

Advocate for collaboration and ensure integration.

1.      Establish documented partnerships with a minimum of eight local provider agencies in the Southwest Florida region.

2.      Attend and or participate in a minimum of eight community meetings and task forces.

3.      Maintain continuous exposure for the Center through the distribution of awareness materials, community training and participation in outreach events.

Strategic Priority Four

Hold the third annual symposium.

Provide a large-scale community training event to agencies, professionals, and students.

1.      Provide a multi-disciplinary symposium for the community.

2.      Register with Florida CE broker and provide continuing education units to licensed professionals that attend. 

3.       The event will be conducted no later than September 30th, 2024.
